Adopted younger sister to one Charles Francis Xavier. As she put it his life was softened by her. She stayed with him as a young child despite being 'blue' but soon took on the visage of a blonde girl because society wouldn't accept her true form.

In the end she ended up going with Erik because he accepted her for her. Though her confidence in herself was still and probably always will be a bit shaky.
